Hebrews 3

… holy brothers and companions in the heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle (messenger) and High Priest (intercessor) of our confession; Hebrews 3:1

Based on this passage, what should we consider Jesus Christ?

Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways. In these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son. God has appointed Him heir of all things and made the universe through Him. Hebrews 1:1-2

To better understand, let’s learn the difference between a prophet and a priest.

A prophet in the OT represents God to the people, a spokesperson for God.

A priest represents the people to God. In the OT, priests would offer sacrifices on behalf of the people to God, but it was, of course, God who forgave their sins.

Jesus is both! The Prophet AND High Priest, and additionally the Apostle and Messenger of the truth AND our Intercessor. He is the only Way or Intercessor to God the Father. Jesus fulfills the OT and is the new and better, complete covenant. We no longer need a priest to intercede for us, as Jesus has interceded for us once for all and is our High Priest. We can now come boldly to the throne of grace, obtaining mercy and finding grace to help us in the time of need – personally and directly! Hebrews. 4:16

John 1:1-4 tells us that  In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men.

Philippians 2:5-6 tells us that …Christ Jesus, who, existing/being/was in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage.

Colossians 1:15-16 tells us that He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through Him and for Him.

Through these last few passages we have learned that Jesus is the High Priest, is the Intercessor, is the Word, and created all things through Himself and for Himself.

Jesus the Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3

So, if Jesus sustains ALL things by His powerful word, why are you not completely, fully, and wholly surrendered to Him, His will, and trusting Him entirely with every single problem, anxiety, financial burden, health upset and relationship in your life?

He is our High Priest and is the only intercession for us to God the Father. What is holding you back today?

What do you need to surrender to Him fully today? After all, He is the only One who sustains ALL things. Relinquish them back to Him today.

How can you make small steps toward full surrender in every aspect of your life?
